Direct primary care eliminates 3rd party interference.

FAQs

  • DPC, at its core, offers you the full range of comprehensive primary care and care coordination services for a low flat monthly membership fee. DPC doctors do not bill insurance and are not constrained to a corporate structure. The DPC model is patient centered. You are the director and the beneficiary. Quite simply, you are paying for access to a doctor who cares about you.

  • I have eliminated the extra time and cost required to work with 3rd party payers and insurance companies. This allows me to pass on the savings to you, so I can spend more time with you in-person and behind-the-scenes working on your care plan. In turn, this model lowers your overall health care costs. For small businesses, this can also produce decreased absenteeism and health care spending.

  • Both models charge a membership fee, provide better access to doctors, and provide personalized care. The major difference is that concierge medicine bills insurance and is typically much more expensive out-of-pocket than direct primary care.

  • Yes, you should still carry major medical insurance to help cover the costs of hospitalizations and specialty care. However, you can save money on insurance by switching to a high-deductible traditional insurance plan with a health savings account (HSA) that costs less per month or join a health share plan (like Zion Health or Sedera Health), since all routine care will be covered by Tumalo Family Medicine. Please note that health share plans often provide a discount if you are a member of a direct primary care practice, or they provide a monthly stipend that can help you pay for a direct primary care membership.

If you would like to review a specific health share plan in detail, consider contacting a health insurance broker (such as The Credicott Agency).

  • Definitely! Together, we will work on your lifestyle goals, disease prevention, and early detection of disease to help keep you happy and healthy. I can also support you through life's conundrums and check in with you regularly. Of course, I also want to be there for you if you get sick.

  • Absolutely! You just need to sign a one-time waiver declaring that you will not directly bill Medicare for my services. Medicare can still cover your labs, imaging, medications, specialty care, and hospitalizations.

  • I offer most medications at wholesale prices in the office, saving you time and money. If I don't have what you're looking for, I can usually order it for you. I can, of course, also prescribe medications to your regular pharmacy, and you can use your insurance to help pay for them. Please note that controlled substances will not be stored in my office.

  • Labs and imaging can be ordered for you and are completed at local facilities. We have contracts with local laboratories and imaging facilities so you can obtain these services at significantly discounted prices. You can also use your insurance to help cover these costs.

  • I will hold periodic vaccine clinics, such as for influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, in the office for my patients. For other routine vaccines, I can advise you on what vaccines are recommended, when you are eligible to obtain them, and help you arrange obtaining them at local facilities. I may offer routine vaccines in the office in the future when I know more about my patient population.
